AGM and BBQ, June 25th 2006

The annual Bicester Gymnastics AGM/BBQ was held on June 25th 2006 in the Village Hall, Murcott.

For a change, the weather was fine, and a fun time was had by all. I was met at the village hall by Becca and Gill at about 12:30 and then shortly after that Angela and Chloe arrived after running in the Thame Run.

Then the Ryan-Pont family arrived and we started setting out the Airtrack, BBQ, Table Tennis and chairs for the AGM. This is when it started to get interesting as apparently there was a small wager on how many families (other than Coaches and Committee) would actually arrive. Up to about 1:15 I think Gill was winning. Caroline took the biggest gamble and went for 7 families. I think the final tally was either 9 or 10 which, was much better than the three last year.

We couldn't have asked for a better day. We had just the right amount of sunshine with a slight breeze. We had to wait for Dawne (this is not unusual) but, being fair to her, she had just driven down from up north and had to fight some awful traffic on the way down. Why she thought Murcott was near Chesterton I haven't a clue but she finally arrived and as the resigning Chair kicked off the AGM with an off the cuff Chairperson report.

I gave my report and Debra reported on the club's finances and plans of fund raising for the coming year. The new commmittee was elected: Chairperson - Caroline Ryan; Treasurer - Debra Clarke,(re-elected); Secretary - Gill Digman, (re-elected); Head Coach - Glenn Gamotis, (re-elected); Gymnast's Representatives - Becca Digman and Daisy Ryan-Pont, (re-elected); It was decided that we needed a Fund Raising Officer. Wendy Hunter was nominated by her husband and unanimously elected.

It was now time to eat and the coals on the barbie were white and ready to start cooking. Mike took the role of BBQ Chef and did a sterling job I must add. While the children played on the Airtrack, giving Glenn a few minor heart attacks, and the other play ground equipment the parents took time to mingle and socialise.

It was then getting close to 3:30 and woosh most of the families disappeared to watch the footie. A quick clean up of the hall and deflating the airtrack and the remainder of us went into Angela and Tim's for a cuppa and to watch the lack luster game.

A nice Day!
